When Pine Hills, Ohio, hosts an inter-town murder mystery game, bookstore-café owner and occasional sleuth Krissy Hancock expects an entertaining weekend. But the fun quickly turns serious when the competition results in an actual murder.

The event is a unique mix of live-action role-playing and theatrical performance, drawing participants from neighboring towns—including Krissy and her friend Rita. As teams follow clues scattered throughout the community, Krissy’s group stumbles upon something far too real: a dead body.

With the game abruptly halted, police take over to conduct a genuine investigation. However, not everyone is willing to stop playing. As tensions rise and suspicions grow, Krissy and her friends must navigate a maze of secrets and suspects to uncover the truth—before the killer strikes again.
