The holidays have arrived on Daybreak Island, and cat café owner Maddie James is ready to embrace the season. She’s looking forward to enjoying the island’s Christmas decoration competition as a spectator, spending quality time with her boyfriend and family, leading festive tours for visitors, and spreading holiday cheer—one adorable cat in a jingle bell collar at a time.

However, the holiday spirit is dampened when news spreads that Donna Carey, publisher of the island’s only daily newspaper, might be selling the business. For Maddie’s best friend, editor Becky, the possibility of losing the paper is unthinkable. Determined to stop the sale, Becky makes her opposition clear, creating serious tension with her boss.

While Maddie sympathizes with Becky’s frustration, she has her own worries to juggle. Despite her efforts to avoid getting involved, she’s roped into helping with the island’s Christmas event planning. On top of that, she stumbles upon a shady cat breeder selling overpriced designer kittens as holiday gifts.

But when Donna is found dead—electrocuted by her own Christmas lights—it quickly becomes clear this was no accident. Worse still, Becky is named the prime suspect. Now, instead of simply enjoying the holiday season, Maddie must untangle a web of secrets and track down a killer before her best friend ends up spending Christmas behind bars.
