Description

In the remnants of what was once North America, the nation of Panem has risen, with a wealthy Capitol ruling over twelve surrounding districts. Years ago, the districts rebelled against the Capitol and were brutally defeated. As punishment, each district must send one boy and one girl every year to compete in a televised fight to the death known as the Hunger Games.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen lives with her mother and younger sister, struggling to survive in her impoverished district. When she is forced to take part in the Games, she sees it as a death sentence. The arena may change, the rules may shift, and the audience plays a role in the competition, but one thing remains the same: to win, she must kill—or be killed.
